Fly Fishing Starter Kits

If you are new to fly fishing you are going to need some basic tackle. You can buy this all separately or you could buy yourself a fly fishing starter kit.To start fly fishing you will need a fly rod, fly reel, fly line, a net, some flies, a box to keep them in, tippet material, braided loops, and a fishing bag to keep it all in.

The best way to buy all this tackle is by getting a fly fishing starter kit, it works out a lot less money this way. There will be loads of other things you will buy through time, but a starter kit will get you on your way to becoming a fly fisher.

There a few things to consider when choosing a fly fishing starter kit.The most impotant is the fly rod and fly line. For example - if you are planning to fish mostly in rivers you will need a small rod, something about 8ft or 9ft.All rods have got a line rating on them, its called the aftm, so for example - a 3 weight rod is designed for a 3 weight line which means the line is very thin and light, and if you got a 9 weight rod that is suited for 9 weight line which is mean thicker and heavier than than the 3 weight. So for presenting a delicate dry fly in a river you would want a 9ft 3 of 4 weight rod with a 3 or 4 weight line, and for fly fishing in a still water lake or reservoir you would want a 10ft 7 or 8 weight with a 7 or 8 weight line.

So think carefully about your first starter kit,if it is for rivers choose the smaller lighter rod, if it is for lakes choose the longer rod.

If you have any questions at all I will be only to glad to help you if you contact me.
